'Please think before you speak' Woman hits back at bullies after being fat shamed for eating ice cream

'I know that I am fat, I don't need strangers yelling out their car window'

A woman who was fat shamed while eating an ice cream with her husband has taken to social media to hit back at the bullies.

Shauna Arocho, from Illinois in the US, was looking forward to enjoying a free ice cream from Dairy Queen, an American chain of soft serve ice cream that was doing a promotional offer that day.

But while she enjoying her ice cream with her husband outside the shop, what was supposed to be an enjoyable moment for the 27 year old was ruined when she was fat shamed by a group of men who were driving past.

Shauna described the experience on her Facebook page in an emotional video, explaining how comments like this affect her, and how they can affect anyone.

'Today is free ice cream day at Dairy Queen if you haven't heard', Shauna said in the video, which she filmed shortly after the incident.

She's been working hard to lose weight, having lost 120lbs since the beginning of her weight loss journey, mainly due to the paleo diet, and going for ice cream was meant to be a treat after all her hard work.

'It's really hard sometimes giving up sweets, giving up all this kind of stuff you just love to eat.

'I decided to sit outside because it was really warm out today, even though it's not very sunny. And as I'm sitting out there enjoying my ice cream cone, a car full of men stopped in the middle of a busy road, just so they could roll down their window and say, "Eat that ice cream, you fat B I T C H". I just don't understand what people get out of tearing other people down,' she said in the video.

'What do you get out of making me cry for the last 15 or 20 minutes? I finally calmed down enough to make a video, and I'm only doing it because I think sharing this kind of thing is important.'

In the post, Shauna also revealed that she gets bullied regularly for being overweight, but this time she had to do something about it.

'I don't usually do this kind of thing, but I feel that it's very important. I'm a 27-year-old woman, and I get bullied very regularly. What do people get out of it?

'What if your words had been the final straw? You never know what kind of place people are in emotionally. PLEASE think before you speak. I am working every single day to better myself. I know that I am fat, I don't need strangers yelling out their car window for me to see that.

'I'm not trying to get pity with this post, I am trying to get people to understand how detrimental bullying can be', Shauna wrote in her post, urging people to share the message.

It's clear that her post resonated with many people, with over 110,000 shares and more than 40,000 comments of support on Facebook. 'Sorry to hear about what happened don't let the bullies win keep up the good work', one comment read.

Many people also shared their own bullying experiences for being overweight: 'When I was heavy people wouldn't hold doors for me & just stared! I lost 160 lbs & now they run to open doors or whatever! I just smile now!'

Others commented to say how brave she was for sharing her story: 'I commend you for sharing this painful story. I hope that the bullies out there see how cruel their comments are! Good luck on the goals you have set for yourself!'

After such a huge reaction to her original post, Shauna posted again on Tuesday to say thank you to everyone for offering their support.

'I posted that video yesterday in the hopes that it would reach a few people, and maybe change a few hearts', she wrote on her Facebook page.

'It has almost 2 million views and I am just overwhelmed by the level of support people are giving a complete stranger. My faith in humanity has never been higher than it is right now. Yesterday my eyes were full tears from sadness. Today, the tears are happy ones.'
