Gareth Gates and Faye Brookes call off engagement
Gareth Gates and Faye Brookes have split.
The former Pop Idol star and his Coronation Street actress fiancée have reportedly called off their engagement.
According to The Sun, a source has confirmed that the pair, who announced their engagement back in January, has come to the conclusion that they’re better off being friends.
‘Gareth and Faye have been through a lot together but they just can’t make it work,’ a source told the Sun Online.
‘She’s in a different place right now after leaving Corrie and is working hard to land some new roles,’ continued the source.
‘She was really excited about the wedding and had even picked a venue but deep down she knew it wasn’t right.
The source added that the duo plan to stay in each other lives, saying: ‘They are both really sad about it but have vowed to remain friends.’

Soap star Faye, who is known for playing Kate Connor in ITV’s Coronation Street, fuelled speculation with posts she put up on social media.
The 31-year-old took to her Instagram stories to share a series of quotes that fans thought could be confirming the news.
She first shared a poem reading: ‘I want to never have to question affection. I want to be so sure of your love that my anxieties starve and die. Fill my head with flowers not fear.’
Faye also added screenshots reading: ‘Some said “Don’t be afraid to start over again. This time, you are not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience.”’, ‘Gut feelings are guardian angels’ and ‘Things are going to work out for you’.
She then wrote a crytptic message to followers, reading: ‘These few days may feel challenging or even disorienting – especially around your identity and relationships.
‘Right now, you could feel a sense of sorrow or deep grieving. You might question what you believe in and who you thought you were. Your identities can feel like it’s slipping away and that it’s no longer relevant or important.’
GoodtoKnow has contacted the pair's representatives for comment.
