More than 58,000 pregnancy tests sold in the UK have been recalled after giving false results
More than 58,000 kits have been recalled
A popular brand of pregnancy test kits has been forced to apologise and recall more than 58,000 of its products after they were discovered to be giving inaccurate results.
If you, or someone you know, has used a Clear & Simple digital pregnancy kit recently, you should urgently get your results checked as some kits have been giving false positive results.
In August, Asda had to issue an apology after its own-brand pregnancy kits also gave false positives. One customer was given four false positives using the kit, which is understandably a very traumatic experience to go through if you’ve been trying to conceive for some time.
Clear & Simple manufacturers Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech have revealed that the affected kits have the lot number DM10220170710E printed on the end of the box and sachet, and have an expiry date of January 2020.
If you are worried that you have used one of these kits, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) suggest you seek an alternative method of testing you are pregnant and hand over the potentially faulty Clear & Simple kits back to the pharmacy or shop you bought it from.
Dr Duncan McPherson, MHRA’s Clinical Director of Medical Devices reiterated: ‘It is important people check the lot number of any Clear & Simple Digital Pregnancy Tests they have purchased to see if they have a product from an affected lot.
‘If you have any questions about using digital pregnancy tests, please speak to your healthcare professional.’

He added: ‘Patient safety is our highest priority. We strongly encourage anyone to report any issues with this product, or more generally with any medical device, to our Yellow Card Scheme.’
According to the NHS, in normal circumstances a positive result from a pregnancy test is usually more reliable than a negative result.
