Hugh Jackman warns fans of sun danger after having his sixth skin cancer removed

Hugh Jackman has revealed that he's undergone treatment for another basal cell carcinoma after a sixth skin cancer scare.

According to the Daily Mail, the Australian actor has undergone his sixth skin cancer-related procedure, and now Hugh is warning fans to take extra care in the sun.

Basal cell carcinoma is one of the most common forms of skin cancer, accounting for around 75% of cases. It usually appears as a small pink or white lump with a shiny appearance. It can also look like a red, scaly patch.

To spread awareness of this type of skin cancer, the X-men star took to Instagram to thank medical professionals for their help and care, before finishing his caption with the powerful hashtag, '#wearsunscreen'.

Accompanying a snap of himself with a bandaged nose, Hugh said, 'Another basal cell carcinoma. Thanks to frequent body checks and amazing doctors, all is well. Looks worse with the dressing on than off. I swear! #wearsunscreen'

This isn't the first time the 48 year old has spoken out about his skin cancer battles - last year Hugh posted a similar message to Instagram warning of the dangers of sun damage.

Sharing a selfie on the social media site, Hugh showed off his clearly affected nose. Advising his near 10 million followers to use sunscreen, he wrote:

'An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups.'

Fans agreed with the actor's message, some even sharing their own stories of skin cancer and reinforcing how important wearing sunscreen is, 'Just had a BCC removed from my nose yesterday and was shocked at the size of the incision considering the size of the lesion! Unfortunately, we can't turn back the clock. Thanks for spreading the word about sun safety. #spf30everyday'.

Hugh opened up about his diagnosis to PEOPLE magazine back in 2015, admitting that after never wearing sunscreen as a child it made sense that he would be affected.

'It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word 'cancer'. Being an Australian it's a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.'

Prior to that, back in May 2014, the Aussie shared a similar image showing a plaster covering the latest incision on his nose.

Urging fans to wear sunscreen he wrote, 'Another Basel Cell Carsinoma. All out now. Thanks Dr. Albom and Dr. Arian. PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!'

Followers were more than happy to echo Hugh's warning, with one commenting, 'I had the same thing removed off of my nose. I'm happy you're doing well now.

'People of the world, please protect your skin!'
