Bagels are a big hit in America. Whether for breakfast, brunch or lunch they offer a sure fire energy boost and delicious meal. Perfect for on the go, they can be made up in 5 minutes and chilled up to a day in advance, making them great for packed lunches. The most popular and traditional fillings are cream cheese and smoked salmon. We’ve used this classic combo and given it a NYC twist with peppery red onion, tomatoes and fresh dill. For fewer calories, swap the cream cheese for a low fat version and try wholemeal bagels instead of white.
Ingredients
- 1 sesame seed bagel
- 2tbsp soft cream cheese
- 50g smoked salmon
- ½ red onion, sliced thinly
- 1 small tomato, sliced

Top Tip for making NYC bagel
Smoked salmon is so readily available nowadays that you can buy whichever quality to suit your budget. Look out for packets of salmon trimmings in the supermarkets for a super saving.
