Why buy ready-made stewed apple sauce when it's so easy and so much tastier to make your own? Try apple sauce with your roast pork.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Bramley apples, peeled and chopped
  • 25g (1oz) salted butter
  • ½tsp cinnamon
  • 50g (2oz) light brown sugar
  • 100ml (3½ fl oz) cider

Method

  1. Put the apples in a roasting tin with the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  2. Bake at 170°C/325°F/gas mark 3 for 25 mins until the apple is tender: it will look more of a caramel colour than bought apple sauce. Mash with a fork and serve.
Top Tip for making Baked apple sauce

Don't just serve it up with pork dishes. This sauce tastes great with ice cream or puddings, too.
