Sainsbury’s is releasing a two metre ‘super sausage’ just in time for your bank holiday BBQ
Sainsbury’s showstopping sausage is set to be a summer barbecue essential.
Does a bank holiday barbecue always sound like a brilliant idea – until trying to chargrill sausages to perfection for every single one of your family and friends leaves you feeling more like an overworked juggler than a master chef?
Well, Sainsbury’s reckons their super-sized BBQ Sausage Sqwirl is here to solve all of your sausage-shaped woes.
As the Sqwirl serves six people, it cuts out the hassle of constantly turning individual sausages when you’ve got a crowd over for a summer get together.
The super-sized sausage is a whopping 1.8m long! But don’t worry – it comes cleverly coiled around itself in a square spiral shape, so all you have to do is pop it on the barbecue and let it sizzle.
‘Those wanting to serve up a juicy sausage to family and friends this year can simply fire up the Barbie, place the sqwirl conveniently on it and then flip it over – which means no more chasing sausages around the grill!’ said Sainsbury’s Product Developer Rebecca Deeley.
The sausage is made from pork and seasoned with tomato, chilli and smoky paprika for an ‘authentic Memphis-style taste’.

Sainsbury’s recommend pre-cooking the sausage in the oven before finishing it off on the grill to give it that crispy texture and lip-smacking chargrilled flavour.
Then simply dish it up in soft, fresh hotdog buns with plenty of salad and coleslaw on the side. Add some homemade sides and a few vegetarian alternatives for the non-meat eaters and you’ve got your bank holiday barbecue sussed.
If you’re really looking to impress, you could even throw a couple of homemade pizzas into the mix.
Aldi relaunches its £39.99 Barbecue Pizza Oven this weekend, which promises to cook perfect pizzas in as little as 10 minutes.
At £3.50 for 600g, the BBQ Sausage Sqwirl is quite the bargain too.
And most importantly, it looks delicious! You can pick one up from the frozen foods aisle. It'll be in Sainsbury’s stores from Sunday (7th April) and online from Thursday (11th April).
