'Wil Can Fly!' Dad edits adorable pictures of his son with Down Syndrome to prove that 'he will be able to do anything'

'We realize Wil is still young, but we know that even though he has Down Syndrome it doesn't mean he is limited'.

Dad Alan Lawrence is proving that his son Wil, who has Down Syndrome, 'will be able to do anything he puts his mind to' - by editing adorable pictures of him flying into everyday situations.

The heartwarming photo series, entitled 'Wil Can Fly', shows Wil floating above landscapes as diverse as bridges and beaches to Disneyland and even his own breakfast table - sometimes accompanied by his siblings, sometimes soaring alone.

Alan, who shares Wil's journey through his website That Dad Blog, explains:

'Wil has always wanted to fly ever since he learned to roll on his stomach. When on his stomach he likes to throw his arms behind his back and wiggle his feet and my family and I have always joked that he will one day take off. So being a photographer I decided one day to make that a reality.'

'I took Wil outside and did a composite photo of me holding him up and then photoshopped me out of the picture. We shared it on Instagram and told everyone that Wil finally started flying. Our family and friends loved this idea and it soon became a weekly thing on my Instagram to see where Wil had been flying that week.'

'These photos soon took on a whole new meaning for us as we began to consider some of the unique challenges he will face as he grows up. We realize Wil is still young, but we know that even though he has Down Syndrome it doesn't mean he is limited, he will be able to do anything he puts his mind to.'

The photos have proved to be so popular that Alan is now crowdfunding a set of 'Wil Can Fly' calendars - half the proceeds from which will be donated to two Down Syndrome foundations, Ruby's Rainbows and Reece's Rainbows.

The other half will be put towards taking Wil, who just turned two, and his flights on an adventure, to capture more images of him before he gets too big.

'Our plan is to rent an RV for 3 weeks and take "Wil Can Fly" through 5 different states, photographing in as many parks and places as possible,' Alan explains on the Wil Can Fly Kickstarter page.

'Sharing these "Wil Can Fly" photos on social media provided an opportunity to connect with so many new friends who began sharing their stories and love for the message we are trying to communicate with these images,' he adds.

'Our family with Wil is happy. We want to show the world that you can have a happy life with a child with Down Syndrome. We don't have to give up all the things we love to do as a family because Wil has Down Syndrome. He helps us slow down and find the joy in life.'
