Tom Daley and his husband Dustin Lance Black have become proud parents to a baby boy – named after the Olympian’s late father.

Tom and his American film producer husband, who announced in February they were having a child, shared the first picture of baby Robert Ray Black-Daley on Instagram over the weekend after welcoming him on Wednesday via a surrogate.

Next to a black and white photo of the baby’s tiny feet, Tom wrote: ‘27/06/18 Welcome to the world our precious little Robbie Ray Black-Daley. The most magical moment of my life. The amount of love and joy you have brought into our life is immeasurable. Our precious son’.

Dustin echoed his husband’s sentiments with another adorable photo of the couple cradling their new baby in their hands, writing: ‘Welcome to the world little Robbie Ray. Thank you for bringing so much love and light with you. And thank you to those who helped make our dream of having a family into this wonderful reality.’

The couple, who married in May last year, have chosen to name their son after Tom's late dad Robert, who died of a brain tumour in 2011.

In an interview with The Times, Tom said that he and Dustin had both provided sperm to fertilise their surrogate's eggs, but do not wish to know who the biological father is.

Hinting that a second child could be in their future, he told the newspaper: 'We found an egg donor and we are the sperm donors, we have fertilised half the eggs each.

'We put in a boy embryo and a girl embryo and we don't know whose is whose. The next time we will do it the other way around.'

The couple will raise Robert Ray in the UK despite admitting they received a negative reaction to the surrogacy.

Speaking to BBC Radio earlier this year, Lance said: ‘'In the US, where we've been working with our surrogate, the reception was incredibly warm, with almost no exception.

But, he added, that in the UK 'We heard things that weren't so friendly. Maybe because there are misconceptions about surrogacy here.

‘But we love this country, this country is home for us. Tom is incredibly proud to represent this country.

'So we are going to take this incredibly difficult route to raise our child here.'
