Girlguiding has had a makeover – including some new badges that might surprise you
If your daughter is a Brownie or a Girlguide, then she's in for a treat.
As part of the group she will already gain skills she’ll use throughout her life, experiences she may not have otherwise and memories that will stay with her into adulthood.
And now she’ll be able to learn even more.
In the biggest revamp of the organisation’s history, Girlguiding’s badges and activities have been given a makeover.
More than 50,000 girls spent 18 months working towards the big shake-up, deciding what the new badges and activities should be.
Over the next year the new programme will be slowly rolled out so that it is fully-functional and ready for launch in September 2019.
The programme will have over 800 new badges and activities for its members to work towards, as well as some special new builder badges that are meant to help the girls develop different types of skills as they get older and move through the programme’s different stages.

Girls between the ages of five and 18 work through Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers to develop skills, explore personal interests and raise their own awareness of the world.
The organisation tried to update their programme to reflect this, after considering that in today’s age young girls have much wider interests than they did, say 20 years ago.
Nowadays young females are encouraged to get more involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) than they have ever been before. Society is also much more aware of issues such as the environment and much more developed in areas like technology.
This is echoed in the new badges that are available for girls to work towards, which include zero waste, inventing, aviation, grow your own and mindfulness for Brownies, and human rights, upcycling, meditation, natural remedies and vlogging for Guides.
The young teenagers will even be able to earn a badge in mixology, so they can mix you up a cocktail or two! Virgin of course!
