Teacher's genius way of using bread to teach a lesson about germs goes viral
'It is so cool and a great way to teach the importance of hand washing!'
A teacher's clever idea for teaching kids about germs is going viral after being praised by thousands for its simple but effective nature.
Donna Gill Allen, a teacher from America, shared a photo to Facebook of three sandwich bags containing single slices of bread.
'To all my teacher friends this is the grossest yet coolest experiment,' she captioned the post. 'I did this while teaching about germs and how they spread.'
'You use three pieces of bread. You let all the kids see you put a piece of bread in a baggy with a glove on hence "controlled", then you wash your hands and put a piece of bread in a baggy for "clean".'
'Last but definitely not least you pass a piece of bread around and let every kid in class touch it then you put it in a baggy and label it dirty. Watch how the bread changes over time due to germs.'

The post has had well over 70k shares, and nearly 50k 'reactions', with thousands of parents and fellow teachers taking to the comments to applaud Donna's ingenious idea and promising to try it out on their own kids and students.
'Omg that is rank but very interesting 🤔Thanks I'll be sure to have a go!!! Xx' said one excited commenter.
Another pointed out: 'simple, but very graphic! Would work best with home cooked bread or damper.... less fungicide present.... some commercial bread doesn't grow mould at all well....'.
'We literally had this discussion with my kids last night at dinner (they hadn't washed their hands and they were filthy...),' added a third. 'I am with you, germs are sometimes a good thing and that what we told our critters. That being said, with little kids, I still say it's best to wash those dirty paws!'
