'Single-motherhood is HARD' Mum's heartbreakingly honest Facebook post goes viral
This inspirational single mother has opened up about every day struggles
Single mum Aly Brothers has shared a heartbreakingly honest Facebook post about the judgement she faces as a young, single parent.
We all know that being a parent isn't a walk in the park. It's unbelievably demanding and sometimes our 'little angels' can be more than a handful.
But for all the viral parenting posts we see, it's not often a mother is so refreshingly honest about her experiences doing normal things like taking her two children supermarket shopping as Aly Brothers.
Aly shared her Facebook post, which has since gone viral, after a particularly gruelling experience trying to take her two young sons on a shopping trip. She details each incident along the way, showing how every small misbehaviour can slowly build up to become a nightmare.
The mum of two bares all, at first proclaiming 'No fancy filters, no good lighting, no new lipstick. Motherhood is HARD. Single-motherhood is HARD.'
She explains, 'My two blonde haired, blue eyed, angel faced toddlers were not so angelic today. It was 8.00 in the morning and we were out of milk...My youngest cried almost the entire time we were in the store. He didn't want to sit in the cart. He didn't want to be buckled, he wanted to hold all of the groceries on his lap. He got mad. He threw his shoe, he threw my wallet.'
As the shopping trip continued, her two little ones began to aggravate each other. With both children throwing things and crying, Aly talks about how people stared at her and judged her, but she tried to deal with it calmly. 'He cried. And people stared. That was fine, I could handle that.'

'My three year old wanted to be superman and stand on the cart. That was fine, I could handle that. I told him to hold on and stand straight. He did not. He leaned back and bumped a stranger.'

Things went from bad to worse for Aly, 'I tried to handle that. I stopped multiple times and composed myself and my children. The lady that I stopped and moved to the side of the aisle for glared at me because I moved the wrong way, she needed behind me not in front of me. No words, just a glare. I tried to handle that.'
By the time she was at the cashier ready to pay the mum had been subjected to judgement and disapproving looks from other shoppers, something Aly wants to hit back at. 'The people in line behind me glared. The cashier glared. Everyone's eyes were on me as if to say "can't you control your own children?". One older gentleman whispered, "she's pretty young for two kids" and I lost it. She handed me my receipt and I cried.'
'They don't know me as a mother. They don't know my children. They don't know I was married before I started a family. They don't know I left that marriage because of abuse knowing I would have it just as hard as a single mother. It's hard people. The glares and whispers and judgements are hard.'
Her post has struck a chord with mums all over the world, with an outpouring of supportive comments and nearly 15,000 shares.
One Facebook user commented, 'The REALEST post ever! I've felt like this MANY times, I find myself crying (on the toilet, in the shower , myself to sleep) and I feel like I'm all alone, thanks to this post I know I'm not! THANK YOU FOR SHARING' and another 'Girl yes!!! Your a great mom! Been there & done that!
'People can be so rude and hurtful! Many times I've dealt with those rude looks and comments . Children will be children!'.
