Mum goes viral after sharing simple car seat hack that could save a child's life

The idea has been praised by parents online

This simple car seat hack that could save a child's life in the event of a crash.

Originally posted on Facebook by a mother from Indiana named Kaitlyn, the idea was spotted by the Rose City Area Fire Department who decided to share it with their network of followers.

'Way too often do firefighters come upon a car wreck with child(ren) in the car who are too young to have any info and parents are unconscious,' the status began.

'It takes 2 minutes of your time to write out child's name, DOB, parents names, DOB, emergency contacts and any medical conditions, any meds your child is on and even child's doctor, then stick it to the child's car seat.'

The upload concluded by reminding users of the social networking site that this information is invaluable to the emergency services in an accident.

'This helps EMS a ton and can also help save your child's life,' the caption continued.

Unsurprisingly, a number of mums and dads were quick to praise the simple but effective idea.

'Love this. Doing it ASAP,' said one.

A second Facebook user added: 'Fantastic idea. I have put an ice (in case of emergency) number on my cell phone as well,' said one parent who saw the upload.

Alexis Copas, another parent who came across the tip while browsing social media, has revealed that she felt compelled to add a sticker to her little boy's car seat straight away.

'I immediately went and made one for my son,' she said.

'The thought of something bad happening to my son and myself and no one being able to help him was terrifying! If just a piece of paper with a little information on it could possibly save his life someday, it was worth the couple minutes to write out!'
