Sarah Jayne Dunn has hit back at trolls who shame mothers for going on holiday without their children.
The Hollyoaks actress decided to leave her son Stanley, who is nearly two, at home to enjoy her honeymoon in the Greek island of Santorini with new husband Jon Smith.
‘It was gorgeous to get away, just the two of us, to reflect on the wedding,’ she told OK! magazine.
'We’ve not been abroad for three years, so we were so ready. It’s the longest we’ve been without Stanley!'
Hitting back at those who criticise parents for holidaying without their children, she added: ‘Your gut instinct is that you shouldn’t leave your child and obviously you pine for them, but I think it’s important for them as well as you.
'With going back to work, Stanley went to nursery when he was about ten months old and it’s really helped him.
'He’s such an independent little boy now. And you shouldn’t feel guilty for finding yourself again.'
Sarah married her boyfriend of five years in a romantic ceremony at The Holford Estate in Plumley, Cheshire, during the May bank holiday this year.
Sarah and Jon met five years ago at an audition for the theatrical adaptation of Birdsong, and the Hollyoaks actress has said she knew he was the one from the start.
Speaking about her special day, she told OK!: ‘To marry in front of our son was such a special moment. I knew Jon was the one for me the first day I met him.’
She continued: ‘After we met at my audition I texted Carley [Stenson], saying: “I have to get this job because I need to get to know this guy!”.’
Jon was equally as overwhelmed with emotion as Sarah. He gushed: ‘I feel so proud to call Sarah my wife. I honestly think I fell in love with Sarah the first day I met her.’
Sarah’s Hollyoaks’ co-stars Danny Mac, Carley Stenson, Ali Bastian and Jodi Albert all made it to the wedding and were there to celebrate the couple’s happy day.
The couple welcomed their first child together, Stanley, in August 2016.
