Ruth Davidson announces she's expecting her first child with partner Jen Wilson

Congratulations are in order!

Ruth Davidson

Politician Ruth Davidson has announced she is expecting her first child with partner Jen Wilson.

The Scottish Conservative leader announced the lovely news on Twitter, with a picture of her family of three - Ruth, Jen and their dog Wilson.

She then tweeted a statement, which read: 'Jen and I are delighted to announce that I am expecting our first child in the late Autumn.

'Like all new parents-to-be, we are excited - and daunted - about the months to come. Mostly, we are just over-joyed at the prospect of starting a family together.'

In the message, the politician goes on to say that she remains committed to her constituents, and that she is 'simply doing what thousands of working women do every year: having a child, taking some time off and then returning to work soon after'.

Speaking to the BBC, Ruth said they had been trying to conceive for a while, and she 'wasn't sure it was ever going to happen for us but we're really, really happy that it has'.

'There's ups and downs but were just delighted that it's been successful and we're really looking forward to starting our family.'

Speaking about how pregnancy had been going so far, she told BBC Scotland: 'I've had a bit of the fatigue, the nausea and the dizzy spells and all the rest of it, and I think trying to do everything I was doing before and keep up the pace so people couldn't tell, just until we knew everything was OK, was a bit of a struggle, so I don't think everyone's noticed.

'There was once I was on my way up to first minister's questions and you can probably see if on one of the tapes that I go in and sit down, I'm there for a good 30 seconds before I get back up and walk right out again, just in case.

'But I was OK and I don't think anyone noticed.'

Congratulations to the lovely couple!
