Prince George and Princess Charlotte affected Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal tour arrival time

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were the reason behind Kate and Prince William's late night arrival into Stockholm last night

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were the reason behind Kate and Prince William's late night arrival into Stockholm last night for their most recent tour, a royal reporter has revealed.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently undertaking a four day royal tour of Sweden and Norway and began the royal visit in Stockholm this morning.

However, the royal tour got off to a bit of a late start yesterday, as Kate and Prince William delayed their arrival into Sweden until late in the evening, arriving into the city in darkness and heading straight to the British ambassador's residence in Stockholm where they are staying for the first leg of their trip.

Royal reporter for the Daily Express, Richard Palmer, explained via Twitter that little Prince George and Princess Charlotte were the reason behind Kate and Prince William's late arrival into Stockholm.

It seems that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were keen to see their little ones before they left, and so wanted to delay their departure until after they could see Prince George home from school and Princess Charlotte home from nursery.

'The Cambridges were not leaving until after Prince George and Princess Charlotte finished school and nursery today' the royal reporter revealed online.

The royal tour of Sweden and Norway will be the first time Kate and Prince William have been away on an extended royal visit of more than one or two days without their two children in tow for almost a year.

Over the summer, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to bring Prince George and Princess Charlotte along with them when they visited Germany and Poland, and before that the whole family visited British Coloumbia in September 2016 for the royal tour of Canada.

The last time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent this much time away from their children at the same time on official business was in April 2016, when Kate and Prince William embarked on a busy seven-day trip to India and Bhutan.
