Mum-to-be sparks debate after sharing financial disagreement she had with her partner
'I'd charge him for carrying his baby'
A mum-to-be has sparked debate after asking whether she is being unreasonable by protesting her partner's request to continue to split the mortgage 50/50 while she is on maternity leave.
Every relationship changes when you welcome a baby into the world. You are transformed into a unit of three and suddenly feel an even greater responsibility and bond with each other.
But money can put a strain on the strongest of family units. One mum-to-be needed some advice after she and her partner had a disagreement over how they would split the bills during her maternity leave.
Writing on Mumsnet, she said: 'Should the mother pay 50/50 towards bills when on maternity leave? I have discussed this with my partner and he would like me to continue to contribute half towards the mortgage and bills while on maternity leave.
'To do so I will need to use a redundancy pay out that I was given during the first stages of pregnancy. He earns a very high wage.'
Other users quickly responded with one stating: 'I'd be charging him for carrying his baby TBH!'
Most of the posts were very strongly against the idea that the mum-to-be should have to continue paying half.

How would you split the bills in this situation?
One person wrote: 'Not if it's a partnership no, you are a family not flat mates. And how will a return to work work with childcare payments and drops off.'
Another added: 'Hmm. Will you be invoicing him for his share of the childcare?'
Many of the Mumsnet users got behind the idea of charging for childcare and said a 50/50 split was only fair if both partners would be left with equal amounts of money for themselves.
What do you think? Should both parents continue to pay the same for bills or is it different for every relationship? Let us know your thoughts and what advice you would give this mum-to-be in the comments box below!
