Mel Giedroyc named host of Let it Shine a week after quitting The Great British Bake Off

Are we ready to see Mel step on to the stage and away from the Gingham Alter?

Mel Giedroyc has been announced as the new host for BBC talent search show Let It Shine.

The nation has been left heartbroken at the news that Mel - and her presenting partner Sue Perkins - will no longer be hosting the Great British Bake Off

and filling our Wednesday evenings with more puns than you can shake a rolling pin at.

This shock announcement also begged the question, what will they be doing if they're not in the Bake Off tent?

It has now been revealed that Mel, 48, has landed herself another gig at the BBC, co-hosting with Graham Norton on entertainment programme, Let it Shine.

BBC One confirmed the news that Mel will take centre stage in the Saturday evening slot, which will see Take That stars Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald audition musical theatre hopefuls to play the band in a stage adaption.

Over the course of eight weeks, Gary will be joined by a selection of guest mentors to help him make his decision to whittle the contestants down to a winning group which will perform Take That hits in a nationwide musical stage show called The Band.

And it sounds like Mel isn't missing the Bake Off tent yet, she excitedly commented on her involvement in the new show, 'This show brings together so many of the things I love singing, dancing, Gary Barlow and Graham Norton. What's not to love? I can't wait to meet the singers and see the performances, which I know will be utterly spectacular. If you know someone who's got the moves, whether they already sing in the shower or on the stage, we want to see them.'

Her co-host, the hilarious Graham Norton, sounds to be delighted about taking part too, he said, 'The combination of the BBC, everyone's favourite band and Saturday nights made this an offer I simply couldn't refuse. If I wasn't a part of Let It Shine, I know I would be watching it at home - this way I just get the best seat in the house.'

Obviously Mel has a lot of loyalty to the BBC and luckily for us will still be on our TV screens injecting some of her warmth and humour into another great sounding show, we're just looking forward to seeing what puns she comes up with next!
