'While it's been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, I have developed Mastitis twice within 3 weeks.'
Mastitis occurs when the mammary glands inside a woman's breast become infected. It is common in women who breastfeed and can cause the breasts to become sore, inflamed and hard-feeling. Women can also experience flu-like symptoms with headaches and an aching body.
Speaking about her experience with mastitis Lauren explained: 'Yesterday I was fighting a fever that almost hit 104. It was the sickest I have ever felt. The pain and aches were unbelievable. For the mammas who have been there, I know you feel me.'
Lauren continued: 'What I keep coming back to is the fact that I feel like all these very common issues that can come up immediately after having a baby are not really talked about and being here now, I'm feeling a responsibility to share this so that any new mamma-to-be reading this is aware of these potential issues.'
Offering her advice to new mums Lauren suggests getting well-educated when it comes to breastfeeding.
She said: 'Take a class, do your research or have conversations with other mothers. There are so many things that can happen...an oversupply of milk leading to infection, your baby having trouble latching, having an undersupply... being aware of this will be so helpful so that you will know how to avoid or handle these things.'
Finishing her post Lauren reiterates that new mums are not alone and gives a special mention to all the single parents raising a child who she calls 'actual superhero[es]'.
Several of Lauren's 545,000 followers thanked the new mum for her honesty and for raising awareness about the good and bad times of motherhood.
One person commented: 'Thank you so much for sharing. Breastfeeding is very physically and emotionally draining, but I am so happy to be able to do it for my daughter.'
Another added: 'Thank you for acknowledging those postpartum issues that many people never talk about publicly and can often lead to depression and isolation.'
While a third said: 'I Love this!!!! Thank you for that advice, I am a new mother to be and I'm a little nervous, but I know it will all be worth it in the end!!!'
