'I will never forgive myself' Kerry Katona apologises to her daughters over relationship with George Kay

'I feel like the worst mother in the world'

Mum of five Kerry Katona has opened up about finally splitting from husband George Kay after her daughters 'begged' her to leave him.

Speaking candidly in an interview with the Sunday People, Kerry revealed the moment that finally convinced her to leave George after three turbulent years of marriage.

She explained that it was her eldest daughters Molly and Lily-Sue, who she shares with ex-husband Bryan McFadden, who had encouraged her to find the strength to walk away, although she does express guilt that she'd subjected her children to an unstable homelife for so long.

'I feel like the worst mother in the world and I will never forgive myself,' she told the newspaper. 'No child should have to hear what they heard or see what they saw. I said to the girls, "I'm so sorry I've let this go on for so long".'

'He had so much power over me, but I can't let my children go back to that, even if I could.'

The couple split at the end of June, and since then there's been a fiery and very public back and forth over Twitter, with George branding Kerry a 'liar' in her claims.

In the past, Kerry has accused George of being overbearing and possessive, forcing her to sideline her friends in order to spend all of her time with him. She'd also claimed that he would regularly use bad language toward her and around her kids, and 'spit in her face' on several occasions.

Kerry explains in the interview that she had realised she had a responsibility to show her daughters that their relationship was 'not acceptable', and made the decision to leave after realising she had 'no choice' for the sake of her children.

However, George has vehemently condemned the claims, insisting her comments were 'laughable', along with being 'extremely incorrect' and 'very misleading'.

This isn't the first time the pair have split over the course of their tumultuous relationship. In 2015, they temporarily parted ways amidst reports he had physically assaulted her at their family home. However, they sparked rumours of reconciliation a few months later after appearing out in public with their daughter Dylan Jorge.
