'We couldn’t be happier' Jessica Simpson announces she's expecting her third child with husband Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson has announced that she is expecting her third child with her former NFL player husband Eric Johnson.

Announcing the happy news on social media, the 38-year-old shared a picture of her cradling her baby bump, alongside the words: 'My Baby Love'.

In a previous Instagram post, Jessica also revealed whether she's expecting a baby boy or baby girl. In it, the star's six-year-old daughter Drew and five-year-old son Ace stand against a stunning backdrop amid a riot of pink balloons.

'This little baby girl will make us a family of five. We couldn’t be happier to announce this precious blessing of life,' Jessica wrote.

Fans of the famous family couldn't wait to congratulate them. One wrote: 'just had my third at 38. It’s been by far the best and easiest of the three as I’m so much calmer. Huge congratulations @jessicasimpson x x'

While another added: 'Awe!!! Congratulations!!! No doubt she'll be a beauty, like her momma! @jessicasimpson'.

The news must have taken Jessica - who has been married to Johnson for four years - and her legions of fans by surprise. The Dukes Of Hazzard star had previously announced that wasn't going to be adding to her brood, and had been fitted with a birth control implant.

Speaking to the Ellen DeGeneres Show, she revealed: 'I’m not pregnant … We had an IUD [a birth control implant].'

Continuing she added: 'Nothing’s gonna get in that uterus. I have two beautiful children. I’m not having a third.'

As well as being a busy mum, former teen pop star Jessica is also a business mogul. Her Jessica Simpson Collection, which stocks clothing, accessories and beauty products, generates an impressive $1 billion annually. We can just imagine an adorable line of pink baby wear for her latest bundle of joy!

Jessica was previously married to actor and singer, Nick Lachey. They tied the knot in 2002 and the couple starred in their own reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Four years later, the couple called time on their marriage and divorced in 2006.
