UK mums splash out on kids' presents
UK mums are determined their kids will have a magical Christmas, regardless of the family's finances!
After a year of financial doom and gloom, are you tightening your belts this Christmas and will the kids feel the pinch with a little less under the tree on Christmas Day? According to our poll of busy mums, it's business as usual for present-buying.
What recession? UK mums are determined that their kids will have a magical Christmas, regardless of the family's finances. Our poll, asking how much you'll be spending on each of your kids this Christmas, showed that more than a quarter of you are confessing to spending more than £200 on presents for each of your kids this year. That's £400 for an average British family, before you've spent a penny on festive food or entertainment.
Christmas toys In fact, over 60% of you told us that you'll be spending upwards of £100 per child. So what can your lucky girls and boys expect this Christmas? A £100 spend will buy them 2 of the most-wanted Christmas presents for boys and girls this year... Perhaps a Jetpack Buzz Lightyear (around £35) for the boys and a Lotso Huggin' Bear (around £35) for the girls? Plus, as more than 93% of your households own some sort of games console (goodtoknow poll), it's no surprise that there will be a game to bulk up their stockings too. Or if more than £200 is in the budget, then an Apple iPhone (around £600) tops the most-wanted list for gadgets for both boys and girls.
Over 1,300 of you answered the poll, which asked: How much will you spend on each of your kids' presents this year?
£200 or more: 27.2% £100 - £149: 22.2% £50-£99: 18.4% £20-£49: 15.3% £150-£199: 11.3% Less than £20: 5.6%
