Frozen's Elsa could be gay according to the film's director but people are really divided about it
How would you feel if Disney got its first LGBT+ princess?
Frozen was one of Disney's best performing films of all time but the director's vision for lead character Elsa has divided fans.
Frozen first burst into our lives back in 2013, and since then thousands of children (and adults) have struggled to get the lyrics 'Do you wanna build a snowman' out of their heads.
While the film was an undeniable hit, the director's suggestion for lead character Elsa's potential partner in the second film has divided opinion.
Responding to fans' suggestions to make the character gay, Jennifer Lee said that Elsa could indeed be given a girlfriend in the next film in an effort to diversify the children's film industry.
Elsa could become Disney's first LGBT+ princess
Almost immediately after the film's debut, a campaign was started to make Elsa the first LGBT+ Disney princess with the name #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.
Speaking about the suggestion, Jennifer told The Huffington Post: 'I love everything people are saying and people are thinking about with our film.

'That it's creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people, it means the world to us that we're part of these conversation.'
Although Jennifer didn't confirm whether Elsa would definitely get a girlfriend, she said it is a constant point of discussion.
'Where we're going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we're really conscientious about these things', she revealed.
'For me ... Elsa's every day telling me where she needs to go, and she'll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa's doing in her life, she's telling me every day. We'll see where we go.'
But while many see the potential for an LGBT+ princess as a positive and progressive move by Disney, others are outraged.
One person wrote on Twitter: '🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 so stupid #GiveElsaAGirlfriend&rsquo', and another added: 'Dear @Disney, I urge you NOT to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, it's just not right to have a gay character in a Disney film, but trust me, my hope, my dream and my wish, is a Fire King instead of a girlfriend, as someone once said "Love is Fire and Ice".'
Others rallied behind the idea of Elsa being gay, with one person writing: '#GiveElsaAGirlfriend because representation matters. Cuz u can teach children acceptance, how to love, to not bully others because of their differences, how to have an open mind and not judge others, and to accept and be comfortable with their own sexual and gender orientation.'
Another also wrote: 'the possibility that disney may (however small the realistic possibility may be) #GiveElsaAGirlfriend makes child-me want to cry. if i had that representation as a kid i might have been spared the years of confusion and feeling of not belonging ❄️♥️.'
So only one thing is for certain - we'll just have to wait for the second movie, due for release in 2019, to see if and with who Elsa falls in love with.
