Richard Gere welcomes first child with wife Alejandra Silva
Richard Gere has welcomed his first child with wife Alejandra Silva.
According to HOLA!, the Spanish sister publication of HELLO!, the Pretty Woman actor and his wife welcomed their first child together a few days ago in New York.
The 69-year-old, who will celebrate his 70th birthday this August, and his activist wife confirmed that they were expecting their first child together back in September.
In a post that has now been removed, the 35-year-old took to her Instagram page to confirm that she was expecting.
The post was an image that showed her and husband Richard with the Dalai Lama, who was giving a blessing to the couple’s unborn child.
‘A very special moment just a few minutes ago,’ she wrote. ‘Getting blessings for our precious to come.. we couldn’t say it before telling HH Dalai Lama☺ #dalailama #richardgere #alejandragere #love.’
The exciting news came only three months after the Runaway Bride actor confirmed that couple had tied the knot.

At the time, the Hollywood star confirmed the happy news to HELLO! magazine, claiming that he was ‘the happiest man in the universe’ after his wedding to the Spanish beauty.
‘I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people,’ he gushed, ‘who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!’
He added: ‘Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel and she’s also Spanish – the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can’t get any better than that.’
The new arrival is the second child for both Richard, who shares 19-year-old Homer James Jigme Gere with ex-wife Carey Lowell, and Alejandra, who is also mum to six-year-old Albert Friedland from her previous marriage.
The couple have been together since 2014 after meeting in Italy when they were introduced by a friend.
