Mum-to-be cancels baby shower after family criticise unusual baby name
It’s always difficult to choose a baby name.
Do you go for trending baby names, one of the most popular baby names or maybe even something royal?
Well one mum-to-be went for quite an unusual baby name that was so unpopular with her family, she ending up banning them all from her baby shower because of their criticism.
In a furious rant, the anonymous mum took to Facebook to inform her family that she would be cancelling her baby shower due to the negative comments that she’d received about her chosen name and that only selected guests would be re-invited to her smaller gathering.
‘I have a really important announcement to make,’ wrote the mum-to-be. ‘It brings me pain to have to tell you this, but I am cancelling the event. I will text you soon if you’re invited to my smaller, more inclusive party. At least here no one will judge me.’
After revealing that, when he is born, her son’s name will be Squire Sebastian Senator, the mum claims her family and friends ‘spread rumours and lies’ about the child and branded her as ‘crazy’ and ‘mentally unstable’.

‘I never knew my family could be so judgmental,’ said the expectant mum. ‘We come from a long lasting family of both squires and senators. If you look back in our family tree, the survival of this clan is literally rooted in squiredom. We are all related to senators too.
‘This name conveys power. It conveys wealth. It conveys success.’
She went on to clarify that she would not be changing her chosen name and that her son would not be allowed to have a nickname.
‘He is to be called by his full and complete first name.’
‘You cannot force me to change his name. This is the name I was meant to give him’.
After reading the angry rant, Reddit users went on to criticise the mum for giving her son the bizarre moniker, writing: ‘I’ll say the same thing I tell any friend who gets pregnant: before you settle on a name, imagine growing up with it yourself’, ‘I do think the countries that have veto power over what goes on a birth certificate have the right idea sometimes’, ‘It didn’t sound all that crazy until the paragraph about how “Squire Sebastian Senator” is just his first name and demanding that people use it in full when calling him.’
Others even went on to talk about how they suspect the child will be teased about his name when he grows up, commenting: ‘Honestly they will probably legit call him Spongeboob Squirepants’.
