Why Kate Middleton is being criticised for taking Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on day out

Kate Middleton took her three children to visit the garden she helped designed at Chelsea Flower Show, but she’s now facing criticism…

The Duchess of Cambridge had a family day out with husband William and their three little ones over the weekend, and royal fans have been loving the snaps and video of their visit (featuring Wills' hilarious 'dad' moment).

However, the mum-of-three has now been criticised for the visit, as children under five are actually banned from visiting the space.

George is nearly six-years-old so he would have been allowed to attend, but Charlotte and Louis would have been too young if the couple were following official rules.

The show’s website states: ‘We regret that we cannot allow under 5s, prams, pushchairs or babes in arms at Chelsea and over 5s pay full price.’

Some people criticised the decision to build and promote a garden that has been designed considering children’s early development, which young children aren’t actually able to attend.

Political commentator Jane Merrick said on Twitter: ‘Lovely pictures of infant royals at Chelsea Flower Show - I love Chelsea but you wouldn't see any other under-fives there, because they're banned. Wish the RHS would change this policy.

‘And children over the age of 5 are charged full adult price. The RHS should make Chelsea more child-friendly to all kids, not just those in line to the throne.’

Another agreed: ‘For children supposedly but other children but her own can't attend.’

A third said: ‘Why would the Cambridges have a children garden in a place where children are banned or are they being selective...’

A fourth also added: ‘This is so ironic given Kate’s little speech today about brain development under the age of five... shouldn’t she have been talking about older children then? Those who will actually be enjoying this garden? Makes no sense.’

A spokesperson for RHS has confirmed that age restrictions remain the same, but children will be able to visit the woodland wilderness garden later this year at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July and RHS Garden Wisley in the autumn.

A spokeswoman for RHS told Express.co.uk: ‘We are incredibly honoured to have HRH The Duchess of Cambridge co-design the RHS Back to Nature Garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, helping inspire children, families and communities to connect with and enjoy nature.

‘The Duke and Duchess visited the garden with their children on an evening before the show opened to the public.

‘The age restriction during show week remains the same and is in place for health and safety reasons. Children of all ages will be able to come and enjoy the RHS Garden co-designed by The Duchess of Cambridge at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July and RHS Garden Wisley in the autumn.’
