Iwan Thomas welcomes premature baby and reveals he is ‘slowly getting stronger’ in intensive care
Olympian Iwan Thomas has welcomed his first child, revealing that his newborn son was born prematurely and is recovering in intensive care.
Earlier this week, the Olympic sprinter took to Instagram to reveal the news that he and his unnamed partner, who he says is doing well, had welcomed a baby boy named Teddy Ellis Thomas.
However, he also revealed that the premature newborn was swiftly taken into intensive care at Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton after he ‘came into the world a little bit early and fast’.
‘I just wanted to share with you some great and also horrendous news, my baby boy came into the World on Sat he’s so gorgeous,’ the proud father captioned a series of adorable and touching photos of the baby boy.
‘I went home the happiest man alive that night only to be phoned to say he’s been taken to intensive care with trouble breathing,’ he continued, ‘yesterday was the worst day of my life looking at my everything with tubes everywhere in an incubator. He is now beginning to breathe better for himself without full aid of machines’
‘I now know what true unconditional love is,’ he added. ‘Not out the woods yet but I will keep you all posted hopefully everything will be fine’.
The Welsh sportsman then posted an update about his little one yesterday saying that he seems to be gradually improving after going ‘downhill pretty fast’.

Alongside sweet photos of his new son being cared for in the hospital, the new dad wrote: ‘Since my last post unfortunately the little fella went downhill pretty fast but slowly he’s seems to be getting stronger although will be here a while yet.
‘I can’t say thanks enough not only to close friends and family who have been great support but also strangers on social media who’s messages have given me faith that he will pull through.
‘Although he’s not totally out of trouble yet a HUGE thank you to the great NHS doctors, nurses and midwifes who do everything in their power to help the sick,’ he added. People are often quick to criticise our health service but trust me they’re saving my boys life and I’m eternally grateful.
‘I’ve met some truly wonderful families who unfortunately are going through similar journeys here and my heart goes out to them all. Although some days are dark try to believe in the power of positive thinking, keep strong, keep believing & keep fighting’.
Little Teddy is the first child for the 44-year-old, who revealed that he and his partner were expecting a baby back in September with a sweet post on Instagram.
Congratulations to the new parents and we wish the new arrival all the best in his recovery.
