Ikea issues urgent safety warning after babies fall from changing tables
Swedish furniture store Ikea has issued a safety alert following three incidences where babies fell off changing tables
Ikea is urging the customers who purchased the £140 SUNDVIK changing table to use the safety lock provided after reports that three children had fallen from the table while being changed.
The furniture chain has urged customers to ‘use the safety locking fitting provided at all times’.
The table has a chest of draws and piece on top that is flipped over so the table converts into a changing area.
Injuries have occurred because the piece that flips over has come loose, and children have fallen, because the safety locks were not fitted correctly, according to Ikea.
A spokesman for Ikea said: 'Customers must not use the product for infant changing if these fittings are not in place correctly or are missing.'
He continued: 'To make sure such accidents are not repeated', Ikea is now offering to supply free safety lock fitting kits to all customers, even if customers no longer have the receipt for the product.

Ikea’s Children’s Business Area Manager Emelie Knoester added: 'Safe products are always an IKEA priority and we are truly sorry to hear about the incidents but grateful that, to our knowledge, the children are fine.
'IKEA has now taken precautionary actions and will further improve the product communication.'
The safety alert comes following the death of three infants who were crushed by the baby-changing table in the last five years.
This is not the first time the company have had to issue a safety warning.
In 2014, Ikea issued a similar warning about the MALM freestanding drawer that caused the death of a eight young children as a result of the product tipping.
Ikea paid a 50 million dollar lawsuit following the infants deaths.
Customers are being advised to get in touch with Ikea if they have purchased the SUNDVIK changing table by calling 02036450010.
