Great British Bake Off star Helena Garcia opens up on breastfeeding during filming
Helena Garcia has opened up about breastfeeding while filming.
The Great British Bake Off star has revealed that she would have to leave the Bake Off tent after every bake to pump milk for her young daughter.
The mother-of-one, who is originally from Spain but now lives in Leeds with her husband and baby daughter, confessed that the worst part of competing in the show was having to rush off after each bake to pump.
However, the Spanish native revealed that she received full support from the Channel 4 show’s production team and said that she hopes that this will encourage other new mums to take the part in the TV competition.
‘My best bit was making friendships for life,’ she told Mail Online. ‘The worst bit for me was having to run out after every bake to pump milk as I was breastfeeding throughout my time on the series.
‘I hope that is encouraging for other mothers,’ she continued. ‘The production team were absolutely incredible at facilitating this and I was so grateful. I hope that is encouraging for other mothers.’
The 40-year-old is the latest competitor to be eliminated from the baking competition, as she failed to meet the mark in this week’s Roaring Twenties week.

This week also saw the show’s first double elimination of the series, with Helena being booted off the show alongside close friend Michelle Eva-Fecci.
‘I got to halfway and it was a double elimination,’ she said, ‘so although bittersweet to leave it was really lovely to go with Michelle who was in exactly the same situation. We are the best of friends and on the phone all the time.’
Helena, who was known for her gothic-style bakes, also praised presenter Noel Fielding for supporting her during her time on the show.
‘My gothmance with Noel was such a big part of the show for me, he was a complete life saver and anytime I was judged, I looked at him for reassurance’.
