Cheryl has hit back at ‘false’ accusations that her mum Joan caused her relationship with Liam Payne to break down.
The mum-of-one shared a statement on Twitter, Monday evening, defending her mum and insisting she had absolutely nothing to do with the former couple’s break-up.
She said: ‘I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam.
‘I don’t know why they involve her in stories about me. I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it.
‘I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life.’
The former Girls Aloud singer went on to pay tribute to her mum, adding: ‘She is a soft and kind woman who doesn’t deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with her.’
Cheryl’s response came after tabloids reported that Joan ‘could be to blame’ for the end of her two-and-a-half year relationship with former One Direction star Liam.

The former couple announced they were going their ‘separate ways’ late on Sunday night, with both of them issuing the same statement on Twitter.
It read: ‘We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.’
Many fans were devastated by the news, with one commenting: ‘Sorry for it Cher, hope you both are okay with it and you're gonna make it good your ways.’
Another added: ‘Sad to hear this & hope that you’re okay. Sometimes in life, things don’t pan out the way we hoped or wanted, but you’re both incredible parents & that won’t change. Sending love.’
Cheryl and Liam first met back in 2008, when Liam was 14 and auditioning on The X Factor.
