Alfie Evans’ parents welcome new baby four months after losing their son
The parents of Alfie Evans, who died from rare condition earlier this year, are overjoyed at the arrival of a new baby boy.
After 'being to hell and back' following the death of their first-born Alfie Evans, Kate James, 20, and Tom Evans, 21, are now over the moon to have a new little boy in their lives, as Kate gave birth to a baby nearly four weeks ago.
Born in Liverpool in 2016 with a rare neurodegenerative condition, Alfie was the centre of a huge legal case when the Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust applied to have his life support switched off.
Alfie’s parents went to several courts including the European Court of Human Rights in a bid to keep their son alive, though doctors said it was not in the child’s best interests to keep Alfie on life support.
The courts rejected the parents’ appeal and Alfie’s life support was switched off on April 23 this year. Alfie died five days later.
On Monday's (September 3) This Morning, Kate and Tom spoke about the new baby, who is named Thomas after his father, and their ordeal trying to save Alfie’s life.
‘It’s the worst thing possible to go through,’ Kate said, before adding:’With the support I’ve got round me, we are holding it together.’

She also admitted that she was worried about having another baby after going through such a traumatic experience with her first.
‘At first it wasn’t so joyful, we were scared,’ she said. ‘I’d be scared in case I’d resent the baby.’
The couple were also told that there was a one-in-four chance any other baby they have together would have the same rare brain condition Alfie had.
Luckily, their new son has been tested and is healthy.
Kate and Tom later brought baby Thomas on to the set of This Morning, after which presenter Phillip Schofield gushed: ‘He’s perfect!’
Kate said she was worried Thomas would resemble Alfie too much as he pulls similar faces to his big brother, but is happy her children look like each other.
‘It’s almost like Alfie is in him,’ she said.

Kate and Tom also spoke about their new children’s charity and how Thomas will contribute when he grows up.
‘When he’s older he’s going to be a big part of the charity,’ said Tom.
